Just one ounce of Adams Reserve Cheddar provides between 200 to 300 mg of calcium – or about 20 to 30% of an adult’s daily requirement. Health professionals agree that 9 out of 10 women are not getting enough calcium. As women mature past the age of 50, the requirements jump from about 1000 mg to 1500 mg. Calcium is vital because it can prevent the break down of bone during the aging process.

Adams Reserve, like all hard, naturally-aged Cheddars, Parmesan and Swiss, is naturally low in lactose – generally only 0.4 to 1 gram per ounce – making it easily digestible, except for the most severe lactose-intolerant people. Cheese provides essential nutrients such as calcium that lactose intolerant people often don’t get enough of. Most lactose (the natural sugar in milk) is removed from cheese during the manufacturing process.

In recent tests, mature, naturally-aged cheddars like Adams Reserve were found to equal or surpass yogurt as a delivery system of probiotic microorganisms that promote healthy gastrointestinal functioning. Other studies show most children fall far short of their daily requirements for calcium. Only 1 oz. of cheddar cheese provides 300 mg or approximately 30% needed as compared to 8 oz. of yogurt to provide the same.

Numerous tests have shown that cheddar cheese helps fight tooth decay in two important ways: 1) as a nutrient, it promotes remineralizing (or hardening) of tooth enamel; and 2) when eating, it helps “wash” away harmful acids in the mouth that cause tooth decay. So if you can’t brush right away after eating – just snack on a little piece of Adams Reserve Cheddar.
